Youth & Children’s Ministry Internship

JOB DESCRIPTION

The summer youth & children’s ministry intern program at Georgetown Baptist Church is an 8-10 week paid position designed to help young adults explore an interest in ministry. Interns are expected to assist with the planning, production, and leadership of various summer activities for elementary, middle, and high school aged students and are expected to contribute 20-30 hours per week. Interns will have a number of responsibilities according to the needs of the youth & children’s ministry and the areas of strength of the candidate. (Housing accommodations may also be available if needed.)

ACCOUNTABILITY

The intern will work closely with and report to the Associate Pastors. They will act as mentor, guide and resource for interns. The intern will be subject to a standard background check (according to GBC’s child and youth safety guidelines). We will also give feedback by completing an end-of-the-summer review.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (THOUGH ARE NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Serve as a faithful role model for the children and students of Georgetown Baptist Church

  • Attend regular Sunday morning worship services and Tuesday staff meetings (schedule permitting)

  • Consult with the Youth Committee & Children’s Team as needed

  • Selected readings in student ministry and journaling (tbd)

  • Help to plan and implement summer midweek youth program

  • Assist with summer activities such as Vacation Bible School, camps, trips, etc.

  • Practice ministry and leadership in selected areas, possibly including:

    • Teaching ministry

    • Coordinating/ planning events

    • Missions

    • Programming

    • Parent ministry

    • Youth worship ministry and/or creative arts ministry

    • Counseling

    • Visitation/outreach/contact

    • Enlisting volunteers

    • Creativity with meeting spaces

    • Recreation

    • Developing student leadership
